WE ARE 100 YEARS OLD!
In the summer of 1909, the country
was shocked by the account of the race riots at Springfield, Illinois.
A mob containing many of the town’s best citizens raged for two days,
and in its wake scores of blacks were killed or wounded. The NAACP was
formed as a result of the atrocities committed during the riots. Well,
that was 100 years ago, and the NAACP is still vigorously fighting for
equality for minorities and other disenfranchised people.
